Bruce Springsteen celebrated his 60th birthday this week, and to commemorate the event, this week’s Flashback jumps back to 1979, almost exactly half his lifetime ago, when a nearly 30-year-old Bruce — it was the day before his birthday — and the E Street Band were rocking out to a new song called “The River” at the No Nukes concerts. While “The River” debuted at the Madison Square Garden shows, the album of the same name wouldn’t be released until over a year later. Watching this video, and witnessing the band’s recent concerts, it’s amazing that 30 years later, Springsteen’s live energy hasn’t diminished in the slightest.
