Both former and current Panic! at the Disco members debuted new music to their fans today via their MySpace pages. As Rock Daily reported earlier this month, Ryan Ross and Jon Walker left the group, citing creative differences.
First up, we got our first taste of Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith’s Panic! with their Jennifer’s Body soundtrack contribution “New Perspective,” which is streaming on their MySpace now. The track proves the group is “alive and well” as it finds a stylistic middle ground between Panic!’s A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out and their last album Pretty. Odd., showcasing Urie’s polished-pop leanings. As Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz said on Twitter after hearing the Urie-fronted Panic! demos, the band’s new music “sounds more like a natural progression from fever u cant sweat out.”
Meanwhile, MTV revealed that the new band ex-Panic! guitarist Ross and bassist Walker formed will be called the Young Veins, as evidenced by their newly launched MySpace page. Ryan Ross alluded to the Kinks’ Ray Davies and that band’s influence when discussing his departure from Panic!—”Brendon’s more of a Peter Gabriel fan, and I’m more of a Ray Davies fan,” Ross said—and the Young Veins’ first uploaded song “Change” definitely features hints of the Kinks’ Face to Face and other marquee acts of the British Invasion era. Ross and Walker are wasting no time, posting on their MySpace blog that “We are currently in the studio finishing up our first album.”
Judging by their MySpace pages, it seems like the Panic! at the Disco fans have split into two camps, Team Urie and Team Ross, with fans of the respective groups quick to write that “New Perspective” is better than “Change” and vice v...
