Since U2’s Bono and the Edge divulged more insight into the music for their Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark Broadway show, this week’s Flashback takes us to 1995 with one of the first bands to take on Spider-Man musically, the Ramones. Up top is the cartoon music video for the Ramones’ version of the Spider-Man theme from the Saturday Morning Cartoons’ Greatest Hits collection, one of the strangest comps from the 1990s thanks to Sublime’s cover of “Hong Kong Phooey” and the Violent Femmes’ take on The Jetsons‘ “Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah (Means I Love You).” What’s even odder is that the directors of that psychedelic eyesore of a Ramones video went on to be nominated for an Academy Award for Little Miss Sunshine.
