An A&E reality special about the Jackson family will be expanded into a full series, a spokesperson for the network announced yesterday, August 25th. The reality special, which was filmed in the months prior to Michael Jackson’s death on June 25th, focused on brothers Randy, Marlon, Tito and Jermaine as the siblings planned out a Jackson family reunion concert, the AP reports. Although filming of the series concluded in early June, initial reports stated that Michael did not participate in the show.
Some leaked footage of the series was broadcast yesterday on Entertainment Tonight, forcing A&E to ultimately confirm that after months of speculation, the special would become a series. The footage showed matriarch Katherine Jackson talking to her sons at their home. Despite reports that Michael would not feature on show, according to ET, “the entire Jackson clan” was at some point in front of the cameras, with sources telling ET “Michael also participated in the filming.”
“The plan was always for this to be a special with the possibility that it could turn into a series,” A&E vice president of publicity Dan Silberman said last month. “We’ve begun speaking to the family, but there is no conclusion yet as to what will happen.” As Rock Daily previously reported, Michael and Janet Jackson nixed a Jackson family reunion concert at Dallas’ new Cowboys Stadium in 2010. Michael instead opted to align with AEG Live for his planned This Is It run at London’s O2 Arena, resulting in a law suit filed by the organizers of the reunion concert.
