The reunited Jane’s Addiction have canceled all their upcoming Australia tour dates as drummer Stephen Perkins requires treatment for an elbow infection, the band revealed in a press release. After experiencing swelling in his elbow following the Jane’s European tour, Perkins has been admitted to Los Angeles’s Cedars-Sinai Hospital for the next few days so doctors can observe and diagnose the drummer while also administering antibiotic treatment. Perkins is expected to make a full recovery, but the band’s trek down under had to be called off.
The six-concert Australian run was scheduled to begin July 25th in Byron Bay and conclude with an August 1st show in Perth. “I know how excited we were to come play in Australia, and how long the fans there have waited for this. I want everyone Down Under to know that we will come back as soon as we can,” singer Perry Farrell said in a statement.
Jane’s Addiction’s last remaining reunion tour date is their August 7th headlining gig at Farrell’s own Lollapalooza. This hasn’t been the best few months for artists scheduled to headline Lollapalooza: Last week, Rock Daily reported that the Beastie Boys had to cancel all their tour dates, including their Lolla gig, so that Adam Yauch can undergo surgery and treatment after being diagnosed with parotid gland cancer. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have since replaced the Beasties on the Lolla schedule. Headliners Depeche Mode had to cancel a string of European tour dates while singer Dave Gahan suffered from a “severe bout of gastroenteritis.” While Perkins is expected to be back in the drummer’s seat in time for the group’s August 7th headlining show, Lolla headliners like Kings of Leon might want to call their doctor for a checkup just in case.
