Jay-Z divulged some more details about his upcoming Blueprint 3, telling Reuters that Rihanna, Drake, Mr Hudson and Kid Cudi will be among the artists featuring on his third installment in the Blueprint series. As Rolling Stone reveals in our new issue’s in the studio story on MGMT, the electro-pop duo will also lend their talents to a track off Blueprint 3. Absent from the guest list is Jigga’s wife Beyoncé, though the rapper didn’t rule out the possibility of it happening. As for Rihanna, her contribution might be her first vocal appearance since the February 8th incident with Chris Brown.
The Blueprint 3 — out September 11th, eight years to the day the original Blueprint was released — will also feature production from Timbaland, No ID and Kanye West, who Jay-Z spoke glowingly about to Reuters. “Kanye is really the father to the next generation — he’s from the school of Q-Tip, and now Drake and Kid Cudi are from the school of ‘Ye,” Jay said. “And, when you look at Kanye, you have to look at Lil Wayne. I think they’re like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.”
Jay-Z also talked about his attack on Auto-Tune on first single “D.O.A.,” saying, “In hip-hop our job is, once a trend becomes a gimmick, to get rid of it. We’ve done that since the beginning of time. This isn’t some newfangled thing.” Two tracks that were originally destined for Blueprint 3, the Oasis-taunting “Jockin’ Jay-Z” and Santigold-sampling “Brooklyn Go Hard,” won’t make the album’s final track list, Reuters reports, adding that at least one more single will predate the album’s September 11th release.
