When Lady Gaga’s Fame Kills tour with Kanye West was canceled in October 2009, the star quickly transformed her planned 2010 European arena tour into The Monster Ball, which she described as the “first-ever ‘pop electro opera.’ ” The North American tour debuted in November and as the singer told Rolling Stone in a preview, featured “theatrics and story elements in the style of an opera” set in theaters and mid-size venues.

With Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour set to relaunch tonight at Manchester’s MEN Arena, The Fame star is dropping some hints about how she’s restoring her original vision to huge venues. Talking to UK’s Capital FM just moments after winning three Brit Awards, Gaga promised that the retooled Monster Ball is “unlike anything I’ve done before,” explaining how she took the opera conceit to the next level.

“It is an electro-opera, so the show is a musical, it’s not just a pop show. It has lines and a score. There’s a lot of music you haven’t heard before, some of it’s very old, some of it’s new, that was scored specifically for the show itself,” Gaga added, noting the show features “really innovative fashion.” Gaga may have given the Brit Awards audience a sneak preview with a stripped-down version of her Beyoncé duet “Telephone” followed by “Dance in the Dark,” which featured Gaga busting out her newest invention, a Frankenstein-esque amalgam of an upright bass and keytar that she’s dubbed “Emma,” MTV writes.
