The Grateful Dead’s 1970 Fillmore Shows Head to Wolfgang’s Vault

Wolfgang’s Vault, the digital warehouse of concerts, recently announced plans to upload roughly 165 previously unreleased Grateful Dead concerts to their site by early November. The fun starts now, as the Vault has posted May 15th, 1970 show of the Dead performing at New York’s Fillmore East. Recorded a month before the release of Workingman’s Dead, the concert finds the Dead performing the second of two shows that day at the venue boasting a set list packed with songs from their new album and their second album of 1970, the classic American Beauty.

The late show’s first set features Jerry Garcia, “Pigpen,” Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kruetzman breaking out their acoustic instruments to showcase their new albums, while the second set is when the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers launches into the music that made them the most revered jam band of all-time. Among the highlights: a 20-minute “Dark Star” and a set-ending “Turn On Your Lovelight” that touches a half-hour in length.
