This year’s Austin City Limits lineup just got a lot heavier: Them Crooked Vultures, the supergroup of Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones, has been added to the festival’s Friday night (October 2nd) schedule. The band will perform from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Xbox 360 stage, just before Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Kings of Leon’s dueling headlining sets. The YYYs are a late addition to ACL, as well: last week they quietly replaced the ailing Beastie Boys on the fest’s lineup.
As Rolling Stone reported, ACL ‘09 also boasts Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews Band, a pair of headliners who held down Outside Lands in San Francisco this past weekend (read about Pearl Jam’s set and DMB’s performance).
Supergroups: From Cream and Traveling Wilburys to Audioslave and Chickenfoot.
The Vultures revealed today on their MySpace that they will also play a pre-festival party at Austin venue Stubbs on October 1st, as well as tape an episode of the Austin City Limits TV show on September 30th. In addition to their brief Austin residency, Them Crooked Vultures announced the beginnings of a U.S. tour that will take them from Texas to Detroit to the Northeast with stops in between. Get all the dates announced so far below.
After debuting in Chicago after Lollapalooza, the band headed to Europe, where they rocked Amsterdam, Pukkelpop, London (at a secret show opening for the Josh Homme-produced Arctic Monkeys) and last weekend’s Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K. The band will return to the UK with new tour dates announced today on the band’s MySpace blog.
