Two days after U2 broke the attendance record at New Jersey’s Giants Stadium, Bono and Co. performed to an television audience of millions as they served as the musical guest on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live. The band performed three songs, a rarity for the live comedy sketch show, plus a fourth track for the studio audience after the end credits rolled. The episode was also noteworthy for its host — Rolling Stone cover girl Megan Fox — and an inadvertent in-skit “F-bomb” by new cast member Jenny Slate.

Surprisingly, U2 navigated away from their hits and No Line singles for their performance. As they’ve done with the majority of shows on the U.S. leg of their 360° Tour, they opened up their SNL performance with No Line on the Horizon’s penultimate track “Breathe.” Next up was No Line’s “Moment of Surrender.” As the end credits rolled, U2 performed a song that’s frequently been among the encores during the 360° Tour, Achtung Baby’s “Ultraviolet (Light My Way),” complete with Bono’s laser-jacket and dangling fluorescent microphone. When the cameras were turned off, the studio audience was then treated to “With Or Without You.” Next week, SNL will welcome Lady Gaga to the stage.
In other U2 news, the band’s official Website revealed the bonus disc track list for The Unforgettable Fire’s reissue, due out October 27th. As Rolling Stone previously reported, the bonus disc will feature two unreleased songs from the band’s 1984 Slane Castle sessions: “Yoshino Blossom” and “Disappearing Act,” which the band recently completed.
