Weezer singer-guitarist Rivers Cuomo has been hospitalized for minor injuries after his tour bus skidded off the road in upstate New York at approximately 7:30 a.m. According to CNN, the bus was on the New York State Thruway around 40 miles west of Albany en route from Toronto, Ontario, to Boston after a light snowstorm when the rear of the vehicle slipped on ice, ran into several reflective road posts and jumped a guardrail, landing in a ditch. Cuomo was brought to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, New York, via ambulance complaining of rib pain, along with his assistant, Sarah Kim, the Utica Observer-Dispatch reports. The frontman’s wife, Kyoko, and their two-year-old daughter were on the bus, but not injured; the bus was transporting one additional passenger who was also uninjured in the crash.
According to a MySpace update posted by Weezer opening act Jack’s Mannequin, the group’s Monday night show at Boston University’s Agganis Arena has been canceled, along with two more upcoming concerts on the Raditude tour this month — a December 9th show at Washington, DC’s Patriot Center and a December 10th gig at Camden, New Jersey’s Susquehanna Bank Center. The status of the rest of the trek, which resumes January 9th in San Francisco, is unknown at press time.
